Great toilet seat for toddlers

I have a 2 1/2 year old that is being potty trained. We have an elongated toilet in our main floor powder room where she uses the bathroom the most. Two problems with that: 1) our child seat was for standard toilets so it moved around and she never felt comfortable going to the potty by herself. 2) Having to remove and replace the child seat whenever we had guests. We recently installed the Kohler Transition toilet seat and she absolutely loves it. She feels so safe sitting on the child ring that she now wants to use the potty by herself and all the time...even when she doesn't have to go potty. The quiet close feature is an added bonus because I don't have to worry about the toilet seat slamming down on her fingers when she sets the seat down. Another great thing about the seat is that we don't have to remove the child seat whenever guests come over...they just lift it up to expose the adult ring or lift it up completely. Great product!

I hesitated to spend so much on a toilet seat but I have no regrets at all. It is beautifully designed and manufactured. The soft-close and removable features both work great as other reviewers have said. The seat is at least as comfortable as the padded seat I had before it and it's light but very strong; I weigh almost 300 pounds and the closed lid doesn't give at all when I sit on it (I've sat on some plastic seats that felt almost like a trampoline). By the way the seat fits and works fine on my old generic toilet from the 1950s so the toilet doesn't have to be either a Kohler or new.



One small thing that I didn't notice until I started using it is the very nicely designed hand-hold at the front edge of the lid. The lid sticks out just a little bit farther than the seat at the front edge only which provides a perfect lifting point for your fingers. It's a small and subtle design feature that makes a nice difference from any other seat I've used.



The only caution I'd pass on is to be careful when you install the seat about getting the little square black posts aligned correctly. They mate with the hinge latch in only one orientation and there's no mention of them in the installation instructions. The seat comes with them correctly oriented inside the hinge but it's hard to keep them there while you mount the seat because you have to unlatch the hinges to do it. A reviewer of the round version of this seat had complained about this and about the poor installation instructions that don't help at all. Pricey but essential

Two strainers for $50. I didn't want to pay that much so I replaced my strainers with cheapo $5 replacements. They didn't quite fit they didn't look right and they didn't make a proper seal with the sink. Finally I broke down and bought these puppies. It's like having a brand new sink! They fit perfectly and look sparkling. They are sturdy and solid. If you have a Kohler duo-strainer there's no substitute for these baskets. I love them.More detail ...

Solid durable and easy to install

This is a really well-built sink strainer - a world of difference from the low-end products in terms of heft and well-machined surfaces. For me the best product feature was the way Kohler designed it to be easy to install. Rather than have to struggle with a pipe wrench to snug it to the underside of the sink there are three screws that hold it in place. You set the flange (the part you see when you look down into the sink) with plumbers putty. Then on the underside of the sink put in the supplied rubber and metal washers. Screw in the retaining nut and hand tighten.



At this point you'd normally have to use a pipe wrench to tighten the nut. But with the Kohler there are three screws that you tighten instead. Much much easier especially if the working space under the sink is cramped. The joint is just as secure as a if you used a wrench but no scraped knuckles.



The basket is also well-made and fits tightly with an o-ring to allow you to fill the sink without the water slowly draining away.



Kohler offers two versions of this - this model comes with a tailpiece the other does not. Other than that they are the same. There is also another model that is much less expensive (it's called the "stainless sink strainer") but it is also less well constructed and does not have the easy install feature.



The CP finish (polished chrome) is the least expensive. They also make this product with several other finishes such as brushed nickle stainless brass etc. Those prices are rather outrageous considering that the only difference is the color of the flange. Although my faucet is brushed stainless (the Kohler VS finish) the CP finish flange coordinates with it just fine.More detail ...

The Best Shower Head I've Had

I don't write many reviews. However this one is worthwhile. It is as far as I can tell the same design of shower head that is in the Holiday Inn Express. How can a shower head be worth all that advertising for a hotel? Well this one is! Whether you have low or high water pressure this thing will work. It replaced a Delta head that was twice the price. My only complaint is that the rim is very wide but the plus is that this makes the head rotate/adjust very easily with almost no effort (yet it stays in place where you aim it).More detail ...

Love this filter.

I am not sure why the other bad reviews. I have had this filter system in place since 2004. I run the Cartridge for usually more than a year before replacing. It flows at full pressure throughout the entire life of the Cartridge. The water comes out without any odor from the start of the cartridge to the end. My last Cartridge was purchased in May of 2008 so perhaps something has changed but Kohler is usually rock solid so I doubt it.

KOHLER is great mechanically as well as looks

I've installed a number of faucets. None have been a breeze like this.



The Hot/Cold flexable hoses attached to the faucet have 3/8" female threads. On one hand this was great (no messing around with copper pipes as I've had in the past). On the other I had to use a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter for my hookup.



The bottom of the faucet that connects to the counter top (I used it with an undermount sink but you can use it with a surface mount sink too) had a really good rubber seal to stop leaks. Fastening it was easy using their mechanism requiring only a screwdriver (no fiddling around with a large wrench in a tight space).



Finally the hose for the pull-out spray is the best design I've seen so far. Which is good because I've found this is the one thing that has leaked on cheap faucets. It has a weight that fastens to the end of the hose to make returning the spray back to it's position very natural.



The black button on the top of the spray head to change from spray to stream was a nice touch :)

Great All-Purpose Faucet

Oh Kohler how I love thee.



We purchased this faucet to replace a more traditional single-handle pullout faucet that broke. I was a bit doubtful about how simple this one looked but it's performed amazingly. The toggle between the spray and normal modes is solid and moves from side to side - something I love. (Ever had to fight with those little silly buttons on top of a faucet?)



Clean-up is easy - just swipe with a wet cloth with a bit of detergent on it.



The faucet is tall enough to let us get even the biggest pots and pans out of the sink - and to fill the spaghetti pot while it's balancing on the sink ledge. It has almost a full 180-degree swivel and never feels wobbly.

Double Your Infant Seat's Usefulness for a Little Money

My wife and I have been long-time fans of our Graco infant seat so much so that we would have been willing to purchase a second one in order to ensure that either my wife or I would always be ready to get up and go with our son when necessary. However Graco saved us from having to do that by offering this base alone as an accessory.



Some other reviews have claimed that having an additional base isn't really necessary because LATCH allows you to easily move the base from car-to-car. This sounds reasonable on paper but breaks down in real life:



* What if one of your cars is older than 2001 and doesn't have LATCH? Ask anyone who's correctly installed a car seat or base via the seatbelt and they'll confirm that it is a physically difficult endeavor. Faced with a choice between regularly undergoing this exertion or else investing in an additional base and then leaving it in place I'd bet 99% would go for the base (the other 1% apparently enjoy a vigorous workout at the most inopportune times).



* Will you always have the time to switch? When you're commuting or traveling with an infant time is an even more crucial resource than usual. Plus any number of other factors (What if you're alone with the baby? What if the weather is severe?) could make the prospect of a guaranteed quick departure well worth the $40 spent on a spare base.



* What about unforseen schedule changes? When our son began going to day care he had to be brought home early on several occasions because of ailments. Having a base in each car meant that either of us could go get him. So if one of was too tied up at the office we wouldn't have to stress over begging out of work early during a busy time.



More than a simple convenience having a base in each of your family's vehicles is an insurance policy against being painted into a corner when getting around town with your little one. Any working parent will especially appreciate not having to stress over "do I have the car with the car seat?" at any given time.
